放射線医学総合研究所などのチームはiPS細胞から作った皮膚や骨髄を移植しても、免疫拒絶反応が殆ど起きないことをマウスの実験で確かめたと2013年1月10日発表。iPS細胞の臨床応用の可能性が拡大し再生医療の実現に大きな期待がかかっている。

iPS-derived cells provoke low immune response（NHKWORLD）
Japanese researchers have found that cells derived from induced pluripotent stem cells, or iPS cells, only provoke a low immune response in mice, in contrast to direct injection of iPS cells.
Medical researchers regard iPS cells as a key to regenerative medicine, as they can be used to create any body tissue or organ.
But a US university study released in 2011 said injection of mouse iPS cells directly into other mice with identical genetic patterns appears to trigger immune responses.
A team from the National Institute of Radiological Sciences based in Chiba, near Tokyo, transplanted skin and bone-marrow cells derived from mouse iPS cells into mice with similar genetic patterns.
The transplanted cells had been fully developed to skin and bone-marrow cells.
The cells provoked almost no immune response over a period of several months.
Hidenori Akutsu of the National Center for Child Health and Development says the finding is crucial in that it has confirmed there is no rejection of iPS-derived cells in animals.
The study is reported in Wednesday's online edition of the British science magazine Nature.
